Sophomore Guard Charlie Tooley Receives Scholarship

Charlie,

Being a walk-on at the college level isn’t easy…  There is a certain level of mental and physical toughness that you need to have to come to practice day in and day out, compete with scholarship players, knowing, you may only get a few minutes when it is game day. It takes a special person with a special mindset. The confidence, work ethic, and willingness to sacrifice for the team that you exemplify on a consistent basis are core values in every good walk-on.

Since you stepped on campus, the one thing that has stood out to our staff is your blue-collar work ethic. Often times, you are the first one in the gym or last one out for practice or get shots up after hours. Not only were you in the gym, you also brought teammates along. That is the true sign of a leader. You let the work speak for itself and you brought others along with you.

See the thing is Charlie… Our staff and players never saw you as a ‘walk-on’. You had some of the best practice habits on the team. You came to practice with a team-first mentality. You provided great chemistry with the players. Thank you for making us all better each day.

That is why, Charlie, we are awarding you with a Full Athletic Scholarship for the Spring 2018 semester.  This is not something we are giving you...  You have earned this moment. Enjoy it!
