The Illusion of Choice

The Illusion of Choice

“The illusion of choice” is a concept we want to instill within our players. We want our players to approach every day with the mentality of bringing energy, enthusiasm and focus to everything they do on and off the basketball court.

The illusion is that players have a wide range of choices to select from in order to succeed, which is far from the truth.  There are certain things that Pack players must choose in order to achieve success, such as getting extra shots up, spending additional time in the weight room, receiving treatment regularly and studying film. Players, teams, and coaches in the past have proven that when these choices are made, success follows. We want to make sure Pack players understand the impact of each choice they make.

Nick Saban talks about the “illusion of choice” and stresses the importance of understanding what you have to do if you want to achieve success,“Players have this illusion that they have all these choices, but the fact of the matter is, if you want to be good you really don’t have a lot of choices because it takes what it takes. You have to do what you have to do to be successful, so you have to make the choices and decisions to have the discipline and the focus to the process of what you need to do to accomplish your goals.”

Winners choose to make sacrifices for the betterment of their team and their careers. It takes discipline and an extremely strong work ethic to be the best. Pack players have made the choices to better our program this summer thus far and will continuing making these choices that will lead us to reaching our goals this upcoming season. There are a lot of choices to be made in life but their are not a lot of choices to be made if you want to be successful.
