Silver & Blue team names are set

Nevada Wolf Pack men's basketball is set to have a Silver and Blue scrimmage this Thursday, October 11th. The men's basketball program has decided to pay a tribute to University of Nevada history with the names of the two teams. The team names are set. The silver team will be called the Sagebrushers and blue will be the Desert Wolves.

These team names are derived from former Nevada athletics nicknames from the early 1920's.  University of Nevada athletically were originally known as the Sagebrushers, named after the state flower.  A sagebrush is a shrub usually throughout a range of cold desert, steppe, and mountain habitats in the intermanountain West of North America. In the 1921–1922 school year, a local writer described the school's athletic teams as a "pack of wolves" which turned into Desert Wolves. The University later coined the current nickname, Wolf Pack.

Nisré Zouzoua will be the captain of the Sagebrushers (silver) while Jazz Johnson will spearhead the Desert Wolves (blue). Our players and staff will also wear special Sagebrushers and Desert Wolves gear for the event. We expect this to be a very special and fun event for the student body and our players!

Team rosters coming soon...
