Our Friday workout this week involved a change of pace as our players were put through a grueling crossfit workout. Crossfit focuses on “high intensity” exercises that push athletes to maximize their potential. Additionally, by constantly mixing up different exercises our players were pushed out of their comfort zones.

Many people have probably heard the claim, “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” and there actually is compelling scientific research to back up this idea within a team context.  The authors of one study called shared discomfort a “social glue” and highlighted the idea that going through a challenging task as a group helps bonds the group together.

Not only does crossfit provide an opportunity for an exhausting workout, but by sharing in that exhaustion, our players embody togetherness.  All summer the emphasis has been to not only continue to get better physically, but also to gel from a chemistry standpoint. This latest Friday workout accomplished both.
